You'll get HOW MUCH!

Spouses and Civil partners frequently assume that in the event of the death of one, the other will inherit the whole of the first estate .

Not so.

If a spouse or civil partner dies without a will, leaving children , the amount which the survivor is entitled to inherit is limited to £125,000. If there are no children, but parents or brothers and sisters, the surviving spouse will be entitled to a legacy of £200,000.

These figures were last changed in 1993 - but after a review ( in 2005) the Government has agreed that the limits are too low and will change them to £250,000 and £450,000 respectively - but not until February 2009.

Even this may not be enough to ensure a surviving spouse inherits the family home.
Ensure that your money and property passes to those members of your family or friends who you have chosen by making or reviewing your will. Don't leave it to chance.
